My name is Laurie Fung. I did my double degree in the University of Hong Kong, majoring Linguistics, English Studies and English Language Teaching (and a minor in Fine Art as well!) and had been a secondary school English teacher for 3 years after that.
Believe it or not - I had never thought of being a teacher for the whole 4 years of my bachelor degree! So I was constantly seeking oppurtunities to experience working in other fields right after graduation. But somehow all the memorable moments of my teaching practice changed me subtly. I gradually realised that teaching wasn't that horrendous as I thought and being responsible to a group of young adolescents wasn't a total nightmare. Eventually I decided to give this job a go and this was how my teaching life started.
Me and my lovely students. I miss them so much |
I truly appreciate every single students of mine - I mean even "the naughtiest" one because they all have something special in them. Something yet to be discovered and ignited. Nurturing students and helping them discover and develop their true talents are what I enjoy most. Last year, I asked my students to turn a short part of their reader, Matilda, into a scene of a drama. The perfect control of technological tools and the way all of them shone on stage stunned me. That's why I am now a postgraduate student doing MA Drama Education and English Learning, doing an elective of ICT in ELT in University of Warwick. I hope I can use drama to make English learning fun and interactive.
Sometimes I am artistic and sometimes I am shopaholic. It's me, pretty random but though "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." It's true that my favourite poem is The Road Not Taken and my favourite play is War Horse, but my favourite individuals must be you all who are reading my blog as this keep me motivated. I will definitely keep updating more intriguing stories. I hope you all will enjoy reading my blog and gain more inspirations from it.
Having fun with my teacher and course mates |
